As a Tax Director with Specialty Tax Group, Patrick Savage specializes in federal & state statutory tax credits, such as the Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit. Patrick has been in the tax credits and incentives industry since 2014, with prior experience at Large & Gilbert and PWC.


Patrick was brought on board to add large industry knowledge to STG’s growing Research & Development Tax Credit vertical, but also has industry knowledge in the Georgia Retraining Tax Credit, the Georgia Jobs Tax Credit, and the Georgia Investment Tax Credit. Patrick is closely involved in technical reviews, training, project management, and representation before the IRS.


While he’s secured R&D Tax Credits for Fortune 500 companies, His true passion is working with small to mid-size business owners. Over his career, he has documented hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D Tax Credits. Patrick’s experience spans industries that include biomedical, internal and external use software, pharmaceutical, consumer electronics, architecture & engineering, manufacturing, food sciences, entertainment, aerospace, automotive, and chemical, as well as a wide variety of technology companies.


Patrick received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University with high distinction and Cum Laude Institutional Honors. Patrick also obtained his Master of Accountancy from Auburn University. Patrick is a certified public accountant (CPA). He was also named to the SEC Community Service Team and SEC Academic Honor Roll.


Get to know Mr. Savage

As a kid, what did you do for fun?

After a standout baseball career in high school, Patrick went on to play 3B/1B for the Auburn Tigers. With his talent at the plate, Patrick went on to secure the designated hitter (DH) spot in his Junior year. He had a career-best nine-game hitting streak from March 5-19, 2013, in 47 total appearances during the year. Go Tigers!


How do you give back to your community?

Auburn’s designated hitter has helped Toys for Tots in Norcross, GA, and volunteered at the Feed 5000 Drive through 12 Stone Church, Lee County Humane Society, Storybook Farms, Christmas Caravan, Strike Out Cancer 5K, and the Beat Bama Food Drive. In his free time Patrick mentors children at Atlanta Union Mission and visits patients at UAB Children's Hospital.


What do you do for fun now?

I’m a builder. I love building houses as well as confidence within the youth baseball community. I coach youth baseball at the highest level. My goal is to help kids enhance the skills they need beyond the field.
